EPR Policies
The perennial question of how to best manage product life cycles has been at the forefront of discussions among manufacturers and recyclers.  Over the past several years, a new paradigm known as “Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)” has emerged and gained traction.  As the name implies, EPR extends the responsibility of manufacturers to include recovery of their products and/or financial responsibility for related public expenditures.  The promotion of EPR is ubiquitous, including, at least one academic book, a series of articles in Forbes Magazine, conference workshops, and a webinar series.  To use the current phrase in vogue, the new EPR intends to “reinvent recycling.”  Click HERE to learn more.

How will “Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)” policies affect YOU and YOUR business?

E-Waste
The U.S. government has recently become a global leader in electronic waste (e-waste) recycling.  The federal government – the largest consumer of electronic devices in the United States – recently stopped doing business with vendors who dispose of used computers, purchased with government money, in landfills at the end of their lifecycle.  Click HERE to learn the details.  The implementation follows another rule that bars all federal agencies from dumping all electronic gadgets, from cell phones to fax machines.

What do YOU think about the federal government’s new policy?  How do YOU think a similar policy change at the state level might impact our environment?
