Our Culture

How do we self-identify?  Our chosen pronouns are We, Us, and Ours.

The Power of We:

• We consider our people to be our greatest asset.
• We believe service is everyone's responsibility.
• We are relationship driven, not transaction driven.

• We promote and strive for continuous improvement.
• We are thumb pointers, not finger pointers.
• We believe in adopting best cultural practices.

Success is the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal.  We are not shy about blazing our own trails in our ongoing quest to disrupt the status quo and make a transformational difference in our industry through continuous reinvention of each aspect of our business model.  As architects of the future, we unleash the raw human creativity generated by our experienced team of recycling and solid waste management experts to proactively drive breakthrough innovations in logistics and material handling methodology, resulting in improved outcomes for our customers.  We share our expert knowledge with our customers.  We remain open minded, so we eagerly learn what we don't already know.  We understand the difference between the two.

We constantly aspire to better ourselves, our business practices, and our customers’ circumstances.  Therefore, the book of revelation is never closed in our relentless pursuit to improve efficiency.  While we promote and affirm maximum flexibility in the implementation of our operational processes, the cultural values that guide our actions remain unwavering.  This firm dedication to our ethical business principles provides a stable footing for our growth and the success of our customers.  We understand that chasing our tails in an attempt to reinvent proven cultural values that already exist is a futile exercise, which is neither productive nor desirable.
Why Reinvent The Wheel?
Toward that end, we have adopted the best existing values and principles of culture available.  Our culture is, therefore, comprised of the total collection of all the values and principles mentioned –  in their entirety – at the following source:

"Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity."  – Charles Mingus

Central Recycling, Inc. is here for you, and because of you – our valued customer.

Where do we fit in to the success of your business?
Our business model is designed so that our success depends solely on our ability to help your business succeed.

How do we help your business succeed?
Our value proposition is simple: We provide reliable, responsive service at a fair price.

What do we offer that is unique?
We pay quickly because we know that is what our customers need.  As an already financially stable company, we never leverage the funds of our suppliers or customers to bankroll our cash flow by using the “collect early and pay late” trick.  Our trucking schedule is flexible, our principles and integrity are not.  We deal straight – no games, no hidden fees, no additional surcharges.  We understand that great customer service can NEVER be out bid, low-balled, negotiated, or outsourced!  When one of our customers sneeze, we show up with a Kleenex before their next sneeze.

Why should you choose to let us serve your recycling needs?
Our reputation is built on the trust we earn from our customers.  We offer a safe and dependable alternative to the typical pricing games played by others.  We treat people (our customers AND our vendors) how we would want to be treated.  Ultimately, it all boils down to developing and nurturing lasting relationships that are built on trust and understanding.  This is achieved by actively listening to learn the particular needs of each customer, then tailoring a custom solution personalized to those unique needs.  The true test of understanding is being able to know a customer so well that we can anticipate and fulfill their unexpressed needs, preferences, and wishes before they themselves even realize what those are.

Who are we?
We are your trusted partner who will work side-by-side with you to solve your unique material handling challenges at the most cost-effective price.  We are your dependable support team that you can count on when deadlines need to be met and dollars need to be maximized.  Who we are is more important than what we do.  What we do will continue to change as the industry, technology, market conditions, and competitors evolve.  Who we are – our core values and the way we live our business lives – is our foundation, and does not fluctuate with market trends.

What is the purpose of our existence?
Our mission is to provide our customers the highest premiums available for their valuable scrap materials.  Our vision is to be the quickest responding and most fairly priced recycler in our industry.  Our promise to you is that we will provide you the best service available to fulfill your unique needs and wishes, or we will refer you to someone else who can.

Where are we going?
We are heading in the same direction you are.  Let's grow together!

30 Things I Learned in 30 Years of Business (by Dan Gilbert)

30: Love your team members.  Love your clients and customers.  Just do those two things and your business will be a success.

29: The packaging of communication is just as important as the information itself.

28: "Sent" is NOT "received."

27: Don't get distracted by people who want you to review the receipts for the paintbrushes.  Your job is to paint.

26: Building anything great is messy.

25: The one who tells you there is food on your face is your friend.

24: The price of knowing is often way too high.

23: Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.  (Thanks Albert Einstein!)

22: Spreadsheets are for measuring the past, not the future.  Remember, 57.392% of statistics are made up on the spot.  Spreadsheets are for measuring things, but just because you cannot measure something, doesn't mean it is not valuable.  Some of the most valuable things in the world cannot be measured.

21: The more you give, the more you get.  It's as simple as that.

20: Winning on the hard stuff does not make the easy stuff easy.

19: It's not so frickin' funny when it's you, is it?

18: There is no better joy than helping people around you go to levels higher than they ever thought they could.

17: Working longer hours does not automatically make you more successful.  Working smarter does.

16: People who are constantly negative, pessimistic and cynical are not spewing their venom towards you or your ideas.  They are talking about themselves.  Never forget that.

15: The little things DO matter.  Especially to people.

14: Think big, huge, large, enormous, immense, jumbo, walloping, gigantic, king-sized, mammoth, massive, thundering.  You have to think anyway... so why not?

13: Try to please everyone all of the time, and you will end up pleasing no one most of the time.

12: Be curious.

11: Any ounce of energy you spend regretting mistakes you made in the past is taking away energy you need from doing things right in the present.
By Ralph Waldo Emerson: Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.  He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.  Finish every day and be done with it.  You have done what you could.  Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.  Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.  This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.

10: Nothing great and long-lasting is built overnight, but you MUST take the first step NOW.

9: Appreciate everything.

8: Light yourself "on fire" and many people will join your mission.  You can't prioritize until you have visibility.

7: I never learned anything talking.

6: Thinking (going deep) about problems, challenges, new ways of doing things and creativity is one of THE hardest things you will ever do.  It also will bring you the finest results.

5: There is always a way to turn a problem into an opportunity.  Find it.

4: Some people WILL NEVER get it.  Get them out of your team, club, house, life, etc... and both of you will be happier.

3: If you believe tomorrow will be even more exciting than today, then you have discovered what passion really means.

2: Nothing clarifies like clarity.

1: When you love what you do, there is no such thing as "work" in your life.
